Research
Searching Strategies such as using different keywords and terms, as well as referencing Google images' URLs to find as much information as possible on the given topic.
Ensuring I find multiple sources of information for the content I am doing research on.
Verifiying the reliability of the sources in question, which means anything directly affiliated with the topic/product in question or any reputable organizations and institutions (websites that end in .edu or .org tend to be a bit more reliable).
Citing my research correctly and accurately in various formats (i.e. MLA, APA).
Always having a question in mind when doing research, so that it is easier for me to find the answer(s).
Using more than just the internet as a way of researching, and instead getting information from other people who may have good insight/knowledge that can not be easily found from one source online.
Writing
Being able to brainstorm and jot down ideas to get a better grasp of my main points and the process I am going to follow.
Working in a process that involves drafts with any piece of writing.
Getting feedback on my drafts, be it from instructors or from classmates during peer-review sessions in class. This feedback is integral to improving my writing both for the specific piece of work in question, as well as my writing competencies in general.
Always proofreading every draft before submitting it for further review and feedback.
Being able to use mark-up effectively on iFixit, something I did not know how to do prior to taking this course.
Using hyperlinks, especially for my references, instead of just listing the URL in the reference itself (something I used to do a lot prior to WRIT 2201).
Becoming more efficient at typing by doing class assignments and group work.
Adapting to unforeseen issues and comfortably being able to make the changes necessary to be succesful.
Communication
Working with classmates in order to share ideas and perspectives concerning certain topics and questions.
Developing better oral communication through class break-out rooms and becoming a better overall speaker in the process.
Regularly contacting my instructor with questions/concerns regarding assignments so I know exactly what I am doing.
I am now able to write better emails because of how much I practiced communicating with the professor and the iFixit Team in WRIT 2020. Writing formally in emails now comes to me like it is second nature, and this has definitely helped with my other classes.
